Chapter the Eigth: in which Fiz agrees with the House of Lords
"It is deplorable that legislation which affects some of the most disadvantaged people in society should be couched in language which is so difficult for even a lawyer trained and practised in this field to understand". - the Appellate Committee of the House of Lords, on The Income Support (General) Regulations 1987.

Having spent several hours with that piece of legislation, trying to establish whether or not Stuart is entitled to Severe Disablement Premium - which all comes down to whether he and I "jointly occupy" our house, which could mean almost anything and is apparently a technical legal term the meaning of which is not entirely clear to anyone - I couldn't agree more.

Oh, they found my car. I haven't got it back yet - my insurance company is repairing it. I hope all my LARP gear is still in the boot.

Sonnets
I think my favourite sonnet is either The Windhover by Gerard Manley Hopkins; or Marnanel's 404 Sonnet.

What's yours?

Alter Ego
The University has now issued me one parking permit (last year's) as 'T S Packer'; and one (this year's) as 'Y S Packer'. I'd have expected them to do some checking of whether such a person existed within the University....

I've been pondering all morning what I can do with my new alter-ego. I think I might try to join some University committees as him. I rather fancy living under the name 'Yggdrasil'.

Chinese Whispers
This morning, my manager told me that my dog had died.

See, my manager lives in my dad's diocese; and this morning she went to a morning service, and her vicar mentioned that the bishop had been burying his dog. The bishop being my dad. So when she got into work she comiserated me. All of which managed to happen before I'd managed to pick up the message on my answerphone from my dad, telling me Sam had died.

I'm a bit sad that Sam's died, though it's not that surprising; he had a tumour we'd had treated but had come back. But at the moment I'm mostly just hugely impressed by the way the news reached me...
